Bowman leads Texas Tech past Montana State 45-10

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Alan Bowman passed for 436 yards and two touchdowns and Armand Shyne rushed for 125 yards and a score to guide Texas Tech to a season-opening 45-10 victory over Montana State on Saturday.

Bowman directed an 11-play, 85-yard drive on the Red Raiders' first possession, culminating in a 5-yard TD toss to McLane Mannix for a 7-0 lead. Bowman led an 11-play, 79-yard drive on their second possession with SaRodorick Thompson bulling his way into the end zone from a yard out for a 14-0 lead.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard after recovering a fumble by Xavier White, who lost the ball after a 35-yard completion from Bowman at the MSU 20-yard line. Casey Bauman connected with Coy Steel for a 31-yard scoring strike to cut the Bobcats' deficit to 21-7. However, Thompson scored from 3 yards out with 50 seconds left in the second quarter to give Texas Tech a 28-7 lead at halftime.

Bowman hooked up with Xavier White for a 45-yard score in the fourth quarter and added a 5-yard TD run with 5:23 left in the game to cap the scoring. White finished with five catches for 107 yards.

Isaiah Ifanse had 15 carries for 77 yards for the Bobcats, but most of those came on one 40-yard run.

The Red Raiders piled up 387 yards in the first half and finished with 691 for the game. Texas Tech held Montana State to 289 total yards.
