Combs scores in waning seconds, Texas Southern wins 86-85

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) Jeremy Combs had a layup in the waning seconds to give Texas Southern an 86-85 victory over Grambling on Saturday night.

Grambling held an 85-81 lead with less than 20 seconds remaining when Jalyn Patterson drained a 3-pointer to close to 85-84. Devocio Butler stole the inbound pass, flipped the ball to Patterson who slipped it to Combs on his way to the basket for the winning bucket with six seconds remaining.

Grambling's Ivy Smith drove for a layup in the last second but Tynik Armstrong blocked the shot to seal the victory.

Combs finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Eden Ewing had 18 points to go with 13 rebounds and Derrick Bruce added 17 points for Texas Southern (13-11, 8-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

The Tigers led for most of the second half and were up 62-51 at the 11:44 mark. Grambling rallied to take a 75-73 lead after a Prince Moss dunk with 4:21 left. Grambling kept the lead until Combs drove for the winning bucket.

Dallas Polk-Hilliard drained 6 of 11 from distance to total a career-high 22 points for Grambling (13-12, 7-5).
