Former 80’s National Championship rivals hit the gridiron in what was at one time the game of the season. The Sooners (7-1) lost it’s #1 status to now#1 Texas a few weeks back. Led by QB Sam Bradford whose credentials are Heisman worthy (2775 yds and 29td’s through 8 games). Oklahoma has rolled the last 2 weeks, including scoring 55 points in the 1st half last week.

Sundays’ NFC showdown of 3-2 teams could go along way toward a possible playoff birth for the winner. Chicago without 4th quarter collapses against Carolina and Tampa should be 5-0. Led by do-it-all rookie Rb Matt Forte (383 yds rush, 172 yds rec) the Bears have found a balanced offense to help their aging yet still talented defense.  In last weeks dismantling of the Lions, Detroit stacked the line to stop Forte and Qb Kyle Orton stepped up throwing for over 300yds.

AFC action in the Florida sun between two teams at crossroads in their seasons. Houston, dramitically affected by Hurricane Ike is o-2 following last weeks thrashing by the Titans 31-12.  Starting QB Matt Schaub has been ineffective 17-37 for 188yds and 3 int last week, and WR Andre Johnson is struggling along with Schaub. Rookie RB Steve Slaton out of West Virginia has been a bright spot in the absence of Ahman Green. Slaton rushed for 116 yds and a score last week.

Two schools with traditions of winning meet Saturday with hopes of rebuilding programs in disarray. Texas AM 1-1 on the year has problems on both sides of the ball. QB Stephen Mcgee is banged up and  the reigns to a very young offense will fall to Soph QB Jerrod Johnson.  On defense the Aggies have been torched to the tune of 540 yds in two games with the majority on the ground. It’s 18-14 loss to Arkansas St. and their 28-22  win over New Mexico have both left lots of room to improve.

AFC West rivals get it on Sunday in the Mile High city. Denver is 1-0 after it’s 41-14 pasting of what once again appears to be a hapless Raider franchise. While the Chargers dropped a heartbreaker on the games last snap to what looks like a vastly improved Panther squad.

Week 2 of college football season pits two teams with hopes of being up and comers in their respective conferences.

Nationally ranked Wake Forest returns 15 starters from last years 8-5 team including Jr. QB Riley Skinner. Skinner lead all division 1 QB’S last year in completion percentage. If he does not turn the ball over he’s one of the best around.  Wake opened the season with a 41-13 whooping of Baylor in which Skinner went 27-36 for 220 yds and 3 Td’s!

Old Miss welcomed the new regime of Houston Nutt with a convincing 41-24 win over Memphis last week. Coming off a disappointing 3-9 season the Rebels look to improve on both sides of the ball. 16 starters return including 7 linemen, which should help Sophmore transer QB Jevan Snead make the transition from Texas!

CSS ANALYSIS:  Both teams have been fodder for their conference heavyweights in recent years. But, both have reasons for optimism. Look for Wake to defend it’s home turf, led by a retooled defense which has come around a great deal the last few seasons!

Free Pick: Wake Forest-8

GOOD LUCK AND THANKS

#1 LaDainian Tomlinson

The league’s premier running back is now 29 and has showed little siqn of slowing down other than last years playoff knee injury. In 7 seasons LT has amassed a mind numbing 10,600 yds rushing and 115 TDS. But, what makes LT even more dangerous is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. 7 straight seasons with 50+catches makes the Chargers play action one of the leagues best. Paired with one the the top O-lines Thomlinson has the record books in his sights and more than anyone can dominate a game and slowly run the opposition into submission.

#2 Randy Moss

A new start and one of the games premiers QB’S elavated Moss’s game last season. The Patriots resurrected Moss from the QB abyss that is Oakland and were rewarded with nearly 1500 yds receiving and a whopping 23 TDS from the extemely gifted towering wide out. 124 career TDS and 12,000 receiving yds rank Moss as one of the best. With his size and QB Tom Brady to get him the ball, when healthy Moss is nearly uncoverable when he is focused and ready to win.
