This time of the year it is always tough to play on the road.  So lets talk about the new #1 team in the country.  For the first time since October 27th, 1980, the Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field as the #1 team in the country.  They did win the National Championship in 1992, but weren’t ranked #1 during that season until their win over Miami-FL.  The field they will take will be Death Valley in Baton Rouge, LA.  The team across the field from them is the defending national champions, the LSU Tigers.  This is going to be another war is the SEC!  LSU knows that it is going to be tough for them to get back into the BCS title hunt with their 2 losses.  Things would be also tough for them to get to the SEC Championship Game.  They would need a win here and win out the rest of the way and would need Alabama to lose to either Mississippi St or Auburn in their final two weeks.  Still don’t tell me the Bayou Bengals would love to knock old coach Nick Saban off the College Football summit.  Lets take a look at both teams.

Last week LSU went out of conference to beat Tulane 35-10.  The Tigers held Tulane to just 163 yards.  Offensively, the Tigers don’t have the big names, but Charles Scott has now put up 889 yards and 11 TDs. QB Jarrett Lee has throw for 1427 yards 12 TDs and 10 ints.  The offense averages 402 yards per game while the defense allows just 297.  LSU is just 1-2 in their last 3 conference games, though the two losses came to Georgia and Florida.  At home this season, the Tigers are 4-1 and have averaged 37.8 points per game in those contest.

Then there is the new #1’s! The Alabama Crimson Tide have been getting things done on both sides of the ball.  On offense, the average 32.2 points per games and 369 yards per games.   QB John Parker Wilson is completing almost 61% of his passes for 1412 yards with 8 TDS and only 4 int.  Then there is their running game.  Glen Coffee leads the way with 894 yards and 7TDs.  Mark Ingram also has added 533 yards and 8 more scores.  Alabama is averaging over 205 yards per game. The Tide’s defense is allowing just 12.2 points per game which is 6th in the nation and 251 yards per game which is 4th.  Alabama has had no problems on the road this year.  They are 4-0 this season, which includes victories over then ranked Clemson and Georgia.

Last season LSU beat Alabama 41-34 in route to their National Title, but Alabama is remarkably 5-3 SU and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings in Baton Rouge.  The road team is also 12-2 ATS in the last 14 meetings and are 11-5 SU in the last 16 meetings.  In this one I would have to say go with the OVER.  Even though both of these teams have solid defenses, it seems like this year in big SEC games the offenses shine.  Examples of this would be Alabama 41-30 over Georgia, Florida’s 51-21 win over LSU, & Georgia’s 52-38 win over LSU.
