Is it too early? NEVER!

So we are just over a week out from Super Bowl LI. The trophy has been presented. The MVP award has been given out. The parade has been held. We have listened to Sports Talk TV & Radio describe & breakdown the “Comeback” or “Choke” however they saw it. Now the talk has turned to free agency, trades and the draft. So I ask you, is it too early to look at the odds to win Super Bowl LII? My answer is no. Not for the serious bettor, but if you have a favorite team that may be considered a longshot, you may get the best odds you will find, right now. Maybe after you get your longshot ticket, your team goes crazy on the free agency market or makes a big move in the draft. Or who knows, maybe you can hit one of those teams that were just on the edge of greatness last year and will get over the hump next season. So with that being said lets look at the odds.

Here are the odds to win Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, MN on Sunday Feb 4th,2018
New England Patriots +535
Dallas Cowboys +1000
Atlanta Falcons +1100

So there they are. As I mentioned, the big bettor or “smart money” will wait until post draft day to see how things play out, but if you want to get your money on your long shot favorite team, I say feel free to play small now. If I were to look for some early longshots, a couple teams jump out at me. The Minnesota Vikings (+3200) fell apart last year, but that was mostly because of injuries. Sam Bradford will have the full off season to get the offense set next year, as it looks like Teddy Bridgewater is going to still be out. Even better than that, the young upcoming Viking Defense will get even better. Houston Texans (+5000) will get Defensive MVP J.J. Watt back from injury to go along with a defense that was one of the best by the end of the year. Put that together with another off-season in the system for Brock Osweiler and a weak division, could be what they need. Cincinnati Bengals (+5500) were a team on the rise heading into last year and things didn’t go their way. A lighter schedule may be what they need to get it back on track. Finally, my longest shot is the Los Angeles Rams. This is another teams with a young, upcoming defense. Also last year’s #1 pick, Jared Goff was able to sit the bench for most of the year learning before getting some game-time experience in the last 7 games of the year.
